Reformation of old communities under the influence of smart transportation system
project overview
As urbanization advances, the news of old food courts being converted or demolished is endless. At the same time, standardized and supermarket supermarkets emerged, but the cold merchandise display shelves and quiet background music always lack a sense of life. So, how should the food market be in a new era? We hope that the hustle and bustle of the past can still be emitted and staged, so we build a "stage" box, hoping to rebuild the intricate relationship between people & people, people & food and food & the city.

01 Problem Space —
How might we to redesign buildings for automated equipment?
High-speed and convenient cyberspace provides technical support for future drones,  auto-vehicles, robots, etc. But people living in old communities before the 1990s are difficult to be benefited from this new technology due to space limitations. In this design, we discussed ways to transform the old to adapt it to the requirements of the new era.

02 Concept —
Five service systems for smart automated equipments
We modified the facade and roof of the building to adapt it to the needs of automatic systems. We designed five systems for different functions of automatic devices: delivery system, housing system, medical system, transportation system and greening system.

03 Solution —
The three function layers system
These five systems are arranged from the ground level to the sky level.

We set automatic transportation and aprons on the highest layer, air corridors and accessibility on the middle layer, and a rapid distribution system and rail transportation on the bottom layer.

Intelligent community customization system
Residents can use the Smart Community App to make reservations for the functional modules already in the system, or users can customize the functional modules according to their special needs.

The user first selects the type and location of the module they wish to customize and confirms the size and function of the combined module. The user then makes an appointment to have the module installed by an automatic robot when free.

Automated devices can intervene in the lives of community residents in a variety of scenarios. For example, morning exercise, shopping, socializing, healthcare, recreation, schooling and business.

04 Usage Scenarios —
Ten scenarios with automatic equipments
Residents can use the Smart Community App to make reservations for the functional modules already in the system, or users can customize the functional modules according to their special needs.

Drone Transport Systems
Multiple small drone docking stations connect five major systems in the community, including transportation and healthcare.
Air Stages
The automated equipment irrigates the crops and calls for the elderly to participate in the planting. It both improves the ecological environment and provides diverse community activities for residents.
Smart Robots
The use of smart robots in new community kindergartens has eased the burden for parents, with robots that can perform tasks such as picking up and dropping off children when parents make appointments.
Technology Agriculture
The beam structure of ancient stores is abstracted, and the overhanging boxes on the upper floor are used to create a gray space for buying and selling on both sides of the marketplace.
Module Transfer Tracks
The modules of each system are transported on the building façade by means of tracks. The system can adjust the track density according to the actual usage of the user.
Automatic Cars
The small automated vehicle system facilitates the community's travel and also ensures the safety of the trip. Users simply make reservations in advance and wait for the automated vehicle to pick them up.
Airbuses
Airbus connects to urban transportation. Convenient transportation can attract young tenants to come and energize the community.
Air express sites
Courier sites are set up from large to small, with the smallest tier of courier sites in the community. Solve the problem of express delivery "the last mile."
Healthcare system
The medical module is set up inside the unit. The robots and drones work with each other to directly deliver residents in need of medical care to the medical facility.
Automatic Transportation
Auto vehicles on the ground are transported through the residence's facade to the rooftop parking area and into the air to operate the transportation system.
